Earl Kills a Spider
What happens when Arachnids Fight
The Battle
Without much activity in Earl's den, I've been wondering if he ever has interesting fights.
The past 2 grasshoppers ended up dead, but no real evidence he was eating much of them.
The little scorpion disappeared, which leads me to suspect he was devoured, but I
don't think I'll ever figure out that mystery. Having found a large spider entering my room
this evening, I decided it would be a good time to see if Earl can hold his ground against
another arachnid. The energetic spider ran his way into a corner and was promptly dumped into
Earl's den. Shocked at first, the spider stands still, then makes the mistake of running towards
the rock under which Earl was currently hiding. He takes a couple of steps into the darkness then
stops. A couple more steps of the spider later Earl shoots out in combat mode, stings the spider
a bunch, chops off one of its legs, and holds him down in a blurry instant. As quickly as it happened
I wasn't sure which one had won until I saw the dripping of the severed leg. Without wasting any time
after the battle, Earl began to eat like he hasn't eaten for months. (He probably hasn't had a good meal
in months either.)
The Aftermath

You can see the general mangled appearance of the spider in this picture.
The shock of losing a leg and being injected with neurotoxins was enough to
kill this hyperactive spider which made the mistake of entering my room through
the doorway.

Earl eating the prize. He got straight to work on eating this punk. Probably because
he doesn't like grasshoppers or the other scorpion which he has had to eat as of late.

Here you can see Earl, still devouring, with a blurry view of the leg which he
ripped off in the brief fury of combat.
The Morning After
After feasting for most of the night, the only remains are a few spider legs and one content scorpion.
